Premier League New Boys Train At Houghall Campus

Scottish First Division champions Partick Thistle have spent a week training at East Durham College’s Houghall Campus ahead of their return to the Scottish Premier League.

The Jags returned to the SPL for the first time in 10 years after an impressive season saw them win the league by 11 points and also reach the final of the Scottish League Cup.

And last week the Partick squad headed back to training in preparation for the tough season ahead; and following the decision to stay in the UK instead of travelling abroad to either Austria or Cyprus, they chose the north-east as their preferred destination.

And after careful consideration they chose to base themselves at the Durham-based Houghall Campus for the week ahead of facilities such as Slaley Hall and the Ramside Hotel.

And Partick coach Alan Archibald has hailed the facilities and staff at the College as fantastic during the time they spent here.

Alan said: “It really is a brilliant facility here that the College has at the Houghall Campus.

“The pitches and surrounding area have been superb to train on, as the lads got back to working hard ahead of the new SPL season.

“And also the staff around the site have been fantastic during our stay here. From the people helping with the organisation of our week here to the staff in the kitchens, everyone has made us feel really welcome and helped us with anything that we have needed.”

And it was a bit of a reunion when the side arrived as the catering was overseen by one of their former players and now East Durham College head chef Joe Keenan who was a former goalkeeper at Partick Thistle before retiring and forging a successful catering career.
